The Global Health Fellows Program- Opportunities for Alumni
I had a meeting yesterday with Dr. Steven Owens, the Recruitment Manager of USAID Global Health Fellows Program. We discussed the Global Health Fellows Program, managed out of the Public Health Institute, as a great next step for our alumni. This program offers two year fellowships abroad in over 29 locations in 21 countries. Fellowships can be extended for up to 5 years. Their salary and benefits packages are very competitive, and they offer professional development perks such as conference and travel funds. Overall, this is an amazing opportunity, and the people at the Global Health Fellows Program are now aware of the FICRS (formerly Fogarty-Ellison) program, and are eagerly awaiting the time when you are all ready to take your next steps in employment. They are in great need of physicians and advanced health workers with international experience. I wanted to refer you to their webpage: www.ghfp.net .
Their Fellowship program isn’t like ours, in that they don’t have a certain number of slots open with an annual deadline. It works more like looking for a job. You check their site and see what is open, and if you find a position you are interested in you apply. So the positions open right now are all in DC and have certain requirements, but check back later and they’ll have more looking for different levels of people. So even if they don’t have anything appropriate for you right now, keep checking back.
